Starting today, Fukuoka House has officially opened at Spazio Illumi, located in central Milan.On this memorable first day, we welcomed two guests—Mr. Matt, former Marketing Director at Volleyball World, and Ms. Kerstin, Chair of the Billie Jean King Cup (tennis)—and held a lunch meeting followed by a presentation session.

福岡県におけるスポーツ振興の現在地と未来について、福岡県スポーツ推進基金の中平専務理事によるプレゼンテーションが行われました。独自のアスリート育成システム「タレント発掘事業」と、国際大会における先進的な環境への取り組みについてプレゼンテーションを実施し、福岡で開催されたバレーボールネーションズリーグ（VNL2024）やワールドスケートボードツアー（WST2025）の実例を紹介。
単なる大会開催にとどまらず、運営におけるカーボンオフセットやフードロス対策など、具体的なSDGsアクションの実践例が語られ、次世代選手の育成と環境に配慮した「持続可能なスポーツ文化」を福岡から発信していくビジョンが共有されました。
A presentation was delivered by Executive Managing Director Nakahira of the Fukuoka Prefecture Sports Promotion Fund on the current state and future outlook of sports promotion in Fukuoka Prefecture.
The presentation introduced the prefecture’s original athlete development system, the “Talent Identification Program,” as well as initiatives to create advanced environments for international competitions. Concrete examples were shared, including the Volleyball Nations League (VNL 2024) held in Fukuoka and the World Skateboard Tour (WST 2025).
Beyond simply hosting events, the presentation highlighted practical examples of resolving social issues through sports and SDGs-related actions, such as carbon offset initiatives and food loss reduction measures in event operations. A vision was shared to promote from Fukuoka a “sustainable sports culture” that balances the development of next-generation athletes with environmental responsibility.

女子テニスの国別対抗戦「ビリー・ジーン・キング・カップ（以下、BJKカップ）」の会長によるプレゼンテーションが行われました。BJKカップは、国際テニス連盟（ITF）と、MLB・ロサンゼルス・ドジャースのオーナーグループであるTWGによるジョイントベンチャーとして運営されています。今回のプレゼンテーションでは、単なるスポーツ大会の枠を超えた社会的意義や、日本との連携への期待について熱く語られました。
At the first day of the House, we were honoured with a presentation by the CEO of the Billie Jean King Cup, formerly known as the Federation Cup (hereafter, the BJK Cup), the World Cup of women’s team tennis.
The BJK Cup is operated as a joint venture between the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and TWG, the ownership group of MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers. In this presentation, the CEO spoke passionately about the tournament’s social significance beyond being merely a sporting event, as well as expectations for collaboration with Japan.
■「個人」から「チーム」へ、そしてコミュニティへ
テニスは本来、個人競技ですが、BJKカップは「チームとしてコミュニティを形成する特別な機会」と大会を位置づけています。国を背負う団体戦という環境は、普段の個人ツアーとは異なる化学反応を生み出し、個人成績では苦しんでいる選手が、チームのために爆発的な活躍を見せることも少なくありません。
大会のキーワードは「Louder, Brighter, Together（より大きく、より輝かしく、共に）」。観客も含めた一体感のある空間作りを目指しており、選手たちも「Brightest, Boldest, Most Unifying（最も輝き、最も大胆に、最も結束して）」というビジョンのもと、大会を作り上げています。競技としてのレベルも高く、過去3年間で世界トップ選手の75%が参加するなど、伝統と実力を兼ね備えた大会となっています（直近2年はイタリアが連覇）。
From “Individual” to “Team,” and to Community
Tennis is fundamentally an individual sport, but the BJK Cup is positioned as a “special opportunity to form a community as a team.”
The environment of a national team competition, where players represent their country, creates different dynamics from the usual individual tour. It is not uncommon for players to deliver explosive performances for the sake of their team, oft surpassing what they could if they were playing alone.
The tournament’s key slogan is “Louder, Brighter, Together.” aiming to create a unified atmosphere that includes spectators, while players build the event under the vision of being “the Brightest, Boldest, and Most Unifying.”
The competitive level is also extremely high, with 75% of the world’s top players having participated over the past three years. The tournament combines tradition and elite performance, with modern innovations that bring communities together. Bringing in Milan, important to mention Italy has won back-to-back titles in the most recent two years.
■ジェンダー平等の実現と次世代への継承
BJKカップが掲げる活動の3軸は、「インクルージョン（包摂）」「インスピレーション（感化）」「エンパワーメント（権限移譲）」。特に注目すべきは、男子の国別対抗戦「デビスカップ」と同額の賞金を提供している点です。これは、大会を通じて性別を問わず誰もが平等な社会を目指すという強い意志の表れです。また、「誰一人取り残さない」という理念のもと、プレーを望むすべての子供たちがラケットを握れる環境づくりに注力しており、ジュニア大会の開催など、次世代を巻き込んだ活動を積極的に展開しています。
The BJK Cup’s activities are guided by three core pillars: “Inclusion,” “Inspiration,” and “Empowerment.”
One particularly noteworthy point is that the tournament offers the same prize money as the men’s national team competition, the Davis Cup. This reflects a strong commitment to pursuing a society where everyone is treated equally regardless of gender.
In addition, under the philosophy of “leaving no one behind,” the BJK Cup focuses on creating environments where all children who wish to play can pick up a racket. Multiple initiatives such as hosting junior tournaments actively engage the next generation.
■日本開催への期待と可能性
質疑応答では、日本市場への高い関心が示されました。会長は「日本はポテンシャルのある国の一つ」と明言しています。特に福岡県の関係者から、強豪校でのジュニア大会開催に関する提案があった際には、ジュニア世代の育成はもちろん、将来的には「BJKカップ・ファイナル（決勝大会）」の開催協力についても前向きな姿勢が示されました。地域と連携し、世界最高峰の戦いが日本で見られる日が来るかもしれません。
Expectations and Potential for Hosting in Asia, and notably Japan
During the Q&A session, strong interest from the Japanese market was expressed. The CEO shared that “Japan is one of the countries with great potential.”
In particular, when representatives from Fukuoka Prefecture suggested hosting junior tournaments at leading schools, and involving the young in the operation itself, the CEO responded positively—not only regarding junior development, but also about the possibility of future cooperation in hosting the Finals. By working together with local communities, the day may come when the world’s top-level competition can be seen in Japan.

インクルージョン、インスピレーション、エンパワーメント。BJKカップは、テニスというスポーツを通じて、より良い社会を築くためのプラットフォームへと進化しています。日本においても、その理念がどのように広がりを見せるのか、今後の展開に大きな期待が寄せられます。
